Taylor Swift expressed deep sadness after an incident occurred at her Eras Tour stop in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Wednesday. Swift took to her Instagram Story post with an emotive handwritten statement, acknowledging their unexpected passing and seeking solace from God for them all.
“My heart aches with sadness as I write these words. We lost one of our fans this evening before my show,” Swift lamented, noting she only knew limited details regarding Ana Clara Benevides (23 years old) was beautiful but far too young for their time to pass by.
Folha de S. Paulo reports that Ana Clara Benevides fainted during a concert held at Estadio Olimpico Nilton Santos venue and was revived on-site, before she was transported to hospital where she succumbed to cardiorespiratory arrest, according to Estela Benevides, Ana Clara’s cousin who confirmed it with Folha.
A concert held during an intense heat wave in Brazil featured reports estimating a “feels-like” temperature of 140degF at its venue; firefighters have even reported around 1,000 attendees fainting during it, according to Firefighters reports. Many fans took to social media, alleging that concertgoers weren’t permitted to bring water bottles inside as scheduled and Swift even paused her show at one point when her thirst became overwhelming, throwing one into the audience to address it herself!
Swift noted in her Instagram Story that she feels too overwhelmed with grief to address the incident on stage, yet expressed deep condolences to both family and friends of those involved in this tragic event. Swift acknowledged how this unfortunate turn of events wasn’t what she anticipated when planning her tour in Brazil.
